対談：名和晃平×長谷川祐子　『「SYNTHESIS」展以降を語る』

彫刻家・名和晃平とキュレーター・長谷川祐子。
二人はこれまで国内外の数々のアートプロジェクトでコラボレーションをしてきた。
長谷川祐子を聞き手に、名和晃平が個々の作品の創作秘話を語る。

名和晃平 プロフィール

1975年大阪府生まれ。2003年京都市立芸術大学大学院美術研究科彫刻専攻修了。
感覚に接続するインターフェイスとして、彫刻の「表皮」に着目し、セル（細胞・粒）という概念を機軸として、2002年に情報化時代を象徴する「PixCell」を発表。
生命と宇宙、感性とテクノロジーの関係をテーマに、重力で描くペインティング「Direction」や、シリコーンオイルが空間に降り注ぐ「Force」、液面に現れる泡とグリッドの「Biomatrix」、泡そのものが巨大なボリュームに成長する「Foam」など、彫刻の定義を柔軟に解釈し、鑑賞者に素材の物性がひらかれてくるような知覚体験を生み出してきた。
近年では、アートパビリオン「洸庭」など、建築のプロジェクトも手がける。
2015年以降ベルギーの振付家／ダンサーのダミアン・ジャレとの協働によるパフォーマンス作品「VESSEL」を国内外で公演中。
2018年フランス・ルーヴル美術館 ピラミッド内にて彫刻作品《Throne》 特別展示。

長谷川祐子 プロフィール

京都大学法学部卒業。東京藝術大学大学院修士課程修了。
東京都現代美術館チーフキュレーターを経て、2016年より2021年まで同館参事。
2021年より金沢21世紀美術館館長。東京藝術大学大学院国際芸術創造研究科教授。
第50回ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレ日本館コミッショナー、犬島「家プロジェクト」アーティスティック・ディレクター、第7回モスクワ・ビエンナーレキュレーターなどを歴任。そのほか「Japanorama—New vision on art since 1970」、「深みへ―日本の美意識を求めて―」など国内外でキュレーション多数。
主な著書に『キュレーション 知と感性を揺さぶる力』、『破壊しに、と彼女たちは言う─柔らかに境界を横断する女性アーティストたち』など。

Kohei NAWA Profile

Born in Kagawa in 1980. Kyoto City University of Arts, Ph.D. Fine Art Sculpture in 2003.
Focusing on the surface “skin” of sculpture as an interface connecting to the senses, Nawa began his PixCell series in 2002 based on the concept of the cell, symbolizing the information age.
Adopting a flexible interpretation of the meaning of sculpture, he produces perceptual experiences that reveal the physical properties of materials to the viewer through works addressing themes related to life and the cosmos and to artistic sensibility and technology, including Direction, in which he produces paintings using gravity, Force, in which silicone oil pours down through space, Biomatrix, in which bubbles and grids emerge on a liquid surface, and Foam, in which bubbles form enormous volumes.
Recently, Nawa has also worked on architectural projects, including the art pavilion Kohtei.
VESSEL, a  performance work produced in conjunction with Belgo-French choreographer and dancer Damian Jalet, has been presented around the world since its premiere in 2015.
His sculpture Throne was exhibited under the Pyramid at the Musée du Louvre in Paris, France in 2018.

Previously, Chief Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2006-2016).
Artistic Director of Inujima Art House Project (2011-present).
Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2016-2021).
Director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2021-present) and Professor of　Graduate School of Global Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts (2016-present).
Worked on numerous biennale projects and exhibitions including Venice Biennale 2003, 50th International Exhibition of Art, Japan Pavilion (2003), The 7th International Moscow Biennale: Clouds⇄Forests (2017-2018), Japanorama: New vision on art since 1970 (2017), Fukami: A Plunge into Japanese aesthetics (2018).
