版画家(1903~197)。
青森市生まれ。
1952年、スイスのルガーノで開かれた第2回国際版画展で優秀賞を受賞。
1955年にはサンパウロ・ビエンナーレで日本人として初めて版画部門の最高賞を受賞。
翌年、ベニス・ビエンナーレで国際版画大賞を受賞し、世界の棟方としての地位を築いた。
1970年、日本政府より文化勲章を受章する。

Born in Aomori City.
In 1952, Shiko's work was awarded a special prize for excellence at the 2nd International Woodblock Print Exhibition held in Lugano, Switzerland.
Shiko took the top prize in 1955 in San Paulo Biennial.
The following year he received the International Woodblock Print Award at the Venice Biennial, as the first Japanese, thus firmly establishing himself as a world class artist.
He was awarded the Order of Culture, the highest honor in the arts by the Japanese government in 1970.
